Shirley Gonzales and Kevin Barton are the new owners of Pedal the Peaks! 

Shirley was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. Kevin moved to San Antonio after a 24-year career in the Air Force. They met on a ride in the Texas hill country in 2006 and were married in 2011. Shirley and Kevin first visited Durango during their honeymoon to Moab and Canyonlands National Park. They have three children: Ian, Zachary and Celina.  

Although they didn’t realize a move to Durango was in their future, they should have. Pretty much every time they loaded up and headed out on the road, they drove west. Sometimes to Marfa or Ft Davis in West Texas, other times to New Mexico, Arizona and more and more to Colorado. The road trips became more frequent and longer, and eventually they realized a move was in the cards and the search for the right place started. Where to find the most kids on bikes was the question. Durango was the answer. 

Shirley and Kevin met on the bike, honeymooned on the bike, and now have three kids who all ride. They moved to Durango in 2022 largely because of all the kids on bikes. Durango’s magic is the combination of trails, roads, and notably culture that results in kids riding bikes everywhere.  

Shirley’s long experience in retail and the family’s passion for cycling are the foundation of Pedal the Peaks’ commitment to Durango. We look forward to serving you!
